Mizuki Ichinosé is an Amsterdam-based Japanese sculptor, painter, and multimedia artist.
Mizuki graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from the University of the Arts London, where she specialized in leatherwork. During her studies, she focused on creating art pieces in the form of handbags and accessories, using leather as her primary medium.
After graduating, Mizuki pursued a career in fashion, working as a designer and artisan specializing in handbags. However, she eventually realized that her true passion lay in creating contemporary art. In 2023, she transitioned to working as a contemporary artist.
Currently, Mizuki’s work explores themes of boundaries and coexistence between animals, particularly dogs, and humans, as well as multi-species relationships. She creates both sculptural works and paintings and plans to expand into larger-scale sculptures and installations in the near future.

Mizuki Ichinosé is a Japanese artist based in Amsterdam, working across sculpture, painting and multimedia. Her practice explores the boundaries and coexistence between humans and other animals, beginning with the bond between humans and dogs, a relationship shaped by co-evolution over at least 15,000 years.
Her approach took shape in her 2016 graduation project at London College of Fashion, where she examined livestock farming and the leather industry through handbags evoking the animals they come from, made with leatherworking techniques, self-made hardware and organs tanned by her own method. The same questions run through her current work: who controls animal bodies, desires and reproduction, and what we choose to value or discard.
Today she takes everyday objects, from dog toys to household objects, and reshapes them into forms where human intimacy and animal presence overlap. In Doggy’s Toy, hand-cast Jesmonite works ask whether dogs, too, have sexual desires and preferences. In Domestic Objects, Dutch household objects meet leather and forms that evoke animal bodies. In her paintings, abstracted silhouettes of toys blur the boundaries between “the dog,” humans and other species.
Ichinosé is now developing large-scale sculptures and installations in which human and animal perspectives meet in shared space.

Teaching background教育について
Mizuki Ichinosé previously taught Art & Design at the International School of Creative Arts (ISCA), a creative arts boarding school in Buckinghamshire, UK. There she learned the process-based teaching of British art schools, in which students research, experiment, develop their ideas and reflect on their work through critique.
Drawing on this approach, she sees it as her mission to share the value of creative thinking and craft with as many people as possible.
